Cinderlands Warehouse’s Executive Chef, Joe Kiefer, will be taking over our kitchen for our September Guest Chef!

He’ll be working with our students to prepare and present a delectable Oktoberfest meal.

Course 1 Potato Pancakes Smoked Mushrooms, Asparagus, Braised Apple (Allergies: Gluten, Dairy) Course 2 Beets & Radish Cucumber, Dill, Yogurt, Pumpernickel (Allergies: Gluten, Dairy)
Course 3 Beer Mussels Bacon, Fennel, Onion, Celery, Clam Juice (Allergies: Shellfish)
Course 4 Sausage Sampler Veal Bratwurst with Cheese Spaetzle / Kielbasa with beer braised sauerkraut (Allergies: Gluten, Dairy)
Course 5 German Chocolate Bars Hazelnuts, Espresso, Caramel (Allergies: Gluten, Tree Nuts)

PLEASE NOTE that this a fixed menu, and while we do our best to accommodate guests regarding food allergies, menu substitutions may not be possible. Please keep in mind that our kitchen is not a nut-free facility.

In our commercial and training kitchen, Guest Chef Dinner events give our culinary training students the opportunity to work with chefs from across Pittsburgh and gain valuable work experience. Proceeds from these events go right back into our nonprofit's training and transitional employment programs.

Hometown Homegrown (butchery)

We’ll be at this year’s Hometown Homegrown event at the Heinz History Center with our Unified Fields Butchery!

You’ll have the opportunity to learn about our program as well as sample and purchase the locally-sourced and ethically-farmed meats that we are so proud to cut and have available for you to purchase.

At some point during the event, our Butchery team member will also be conducting a knife-sharpening demo for attendees.

”Enjoy more than 40 local food and drink vendors sharing delicious  samples– plus activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the museum.

Come sample and take home some of Pittsburgh's favorite foods from iconic names like Isaly's, Wholey's, Pittsburgh Pickle, and so many more.  Find a new favorite or two from some of the best "newbies" on the Pittsburgh food scene.

Watch live cooking demonstrations from local culinary personalities in the kitchen classroom, and learn more about Western Pennsylvania’s culinary history throughout five-floors of food-filled fun for the whole family.

For 40 years, the Annual Family House Polo Match has been a beloved tradition that raises critical funds to provide a “home away from home” for thousands of families who travel to Pittsburgh for medical care annually. Each year, this event draws over 3,000 spectators for a fanciful, fun-for-the-whole-family experience complete with a professional polo match, tailgating, food and drink, live music, shopping, children’s activities, and more!

What started in 1983 as a simple idea to raise money for the first Family House facility has grown into one of the most anticipated annual traditions in Pittsburgh.

Join us on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28th for for our FIRST VEGAN Guest Chef Dinner Event!

APTEKA's co-chef and co-owner, Tomasz Skowronski, will be joining our kitchen for the evening to work with our students to prepare and present a delicious multi-course meal, featuring vegan Central and Eastern European dishes.

Taste why the New York Times in listed them in their “The Restaurant List” and “Best Restaurant Dishes” in 2022; and why they were recognized as semi-finalists in 2022 and finalists in 2023 and 2024 for the James Beard Award for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic.

This event will take place at our facility in Hazelwood on Wednesday, August 28th, beginning at 5:30pm ET.

The (Rough) Menu is as follows:

  • 1st Course: Faszerowane Papryki (Stuffed Peppers)

  • 2nd Course: Barszcz Ukrainski (Ukrainian Borscht)

  • 3rd Course: Pierogi (Potato + Cabbage Pierogi)

  • 4th Course: Ciasto z Morela (Cake w/ Apricots)

City In The Streets (food truck appearance)

City in the Streets: Bringing Government to the People

In 2023, Mayor Ed Gainey launched a new initiative to bring government to the people. Representatives from every city department and select authorities met residents in a block party setting at different locations around the city.

Each event include food, community vendors, activities for kids, and various departments tabling to provide resources, information about their work, and intake on-site requests for service.
